Hi Ron. Thanks for your reply. I am a bit confused about your post. According to my records, you have Aaron J. Fortson's children correctly placed with Pamelia, b.1847 as the last child born. The only son of Aaron J. Fortson was Jeptha M. Fortson m. 3 Oct. 1871 in Panola Co. Texas to wife Pamelia b.1818, and they had 5 children: John W., Thomas M, (I have W.) William H., Hattie Elizabeth, and Precias Ella. Precias Ella Fortson m. my great grandfather George W. Willingham when she was 14 years old in 1898 in Falls Co.Texas. They were in Gregg Co.Texas by 1902 along with Jeptha Fortson , wife Margaret , son William and daughter Hattie who married a Charles Goodman. Hattie's brother William Henry Fortson m. Carrie V. Woodard and they had NO (0) children, raised their niece when they were elderly but did not adopt her. William was 32 years old on the 1910 Gregg Co.Tx. census living with parents Jeptha and Margaret Fortson. Jeptha and wife Margaret were not listed in any census after the 1910 Gregg Co.Texas Census. So, we assume they were deceased before the 1920 census. Jeptha and Margaret Fortson lived from 1900 to 1912 (filing a CSA pension application ) in Gregg Co.Texas and on my great grandfather George W. Willingham's land, I believe one or both of the Fortsons are buried in the West Mt. Cemetery in Upshur Co.Texas because that is the G.W. Willingham burial plot and the Fortsons were dependent on my great grandfather Willingham. I do not know of the Bertha, Herod, Thomas and Ruth Fortson nor a Maxwell b. 1899,Abner b. 1888, J.A. b. 1890 or Harrison b. 1889. I have read the name Claud Fortson b. 1894 as he was in the War lists (I think in) Gregg Co.Texas. As far as I know he is not related to my Jeptha Fortson b. 1845. I would like to learn more of all these other Gregg Co. and Van Zandt Co. Texas Fortsons. I spoke several years ago with an elderly woman in Gregg Co.Texas who had married a Fortson man and said her husband's people came to Texas with the Fortson family from La. and Ga. She did not know a lot more and her husband was ill at the time I spoke with her. I am sorry that I did not contact her again. Do you have information listing the above family members with Jeptha M. Fortson or his father Aaron J. Fortson as related by blood? Do you think you could have picked up these Fortsons from the Gregg Co.Tx. census and put them all together or do you have reason to believe they belong together? Perhaps, this is a good case for DNA testing. I would not be surprised if we were all cousins. Would really like to learn more if you find anything. C.J. Notify Administrator about this message?
