Thank you Chandler! So, we are not all dead yet. And, thanks for posting the Elbert Co. website. With all my complaining about the no-posts, I had forgotten how much is available if we only search a little.
I descend from: Thomas Fortson, 1716 m. Eliz. Winn, d/o Richard Winn and Ann Cocke. Their son Thomas Jr. 1742 m. Rachel Winn, d/o Benjamin Winn and Ann Tavener. Their son, William Fortson, 1774, m. Ann Higginbotham,d/o Samuel Higginbotham and Jane Satterwhite. Their son, (13th child), was Aaron J. Fortson, 1816, m. Pamelia Willbanks. Their son, Jeptha Monroe Fortson, 1845 m. Margaret Elizabeth Riley. Their daughter, Precias Ella Fortson, 1884 m. George Washington Willingham, 1877, s/o Thomas Willingham and Lucinda Denton. Their Daughter Mamie Lameta Willingham 1900, m. Robert Estes Elliott, 1890, s/o Bushrod L. Elliott and Minnie Harriss. Their daughter Dorothy Elliott 1917 m. Clyde James Arthur, 1914, s/o John William Arthur and Maude Dorsey. Dorothy Elliott and Clyde Arthur were my parents.
My interests in the Fortsons now center on where and when my great grandparents Jeptha M. Fortson and Margaret Elizabeth Riley died and are buried. They last appear in the
1910 Gregg Co. Texas census. Jeptha's CSA Pension papers were filed 1910 -1912. After that, nothing is known for sure. We believe the Fortsons are buried in the Willingham plot in Upshur Co.Texas since they had lived for over 10 years on Willingham land. Daughter Ella Fortson Willingham died in 1910 and father Jeptha was a traveling minister from his census records, and may have left Gregg Co.Tx. after 1910 and sought other relatives. We are cousins, Chandler. How, I cannot say. Thanks again. Carol Jones
