I am wondering if my Richard Fortner, born 1780-95 belonged to this family.Richard married Margaret Wigal (b. 1788 in Westmoreland PA.) on Dec 4 1817 in Switzerland Co. Indiana.Margaret, whose family had previously settled in Wood Co. WV, was staying with her sister and brother-in-law Peter and Elizabeth Sheets.Richard and Margaret had 3 sons, Isaac, Daniel and George and possibly a daughter Barbary.Something happened to Margaret and the children were sent back to Wood Co. WV to live with their aunt and uncle Wigal.Family tradition (from James B. Fortner) has it that Richard died in a horse race in KY. Richard was involved in the war of 1812 and again tradition has it that he was a "drummer boy".A Richard Fortimer does appear as a pvt in the war of 1812.Another John appears as a corp. in Ross Co. OH.Since other Peter Fortner b. 1788 and his brother John lived in Indiana it makes sense that Richard also settled in Indiana.I am hoping to make a connection withmy Richard to the Richard, son of Peter Fortner and Nancy Grover.Anyone have any further ideas?
