I believe when you mentioned there was another brother who may have moved to the states, that was my grandfather, Fred.He was son of Ed and Elizabeth Fortman (shows as Henry E in the 1881 census and Ed in the 1891 census) and grandson of Theodore Fortman and Mary Lannin. My Grandpa went by Fred and my Dad's name is Theodore Henry Fortman.Fred served in the Canadian army in WWI and emigrated to the US sometime after that.He married Ethel V. and I'm not sure they met in Canada or the US but when I was born in 1950, they lived in Tonawanda, NY north of Buffalo and had for years. He was a plant engineer for a papermill in Tonawanda.I vaguely remember my great-grandmother (Elizabeth) and have a multi-generation photo from the '50s. I also remember vaguely going to a farm in Ontario as a very small child.I also remember the names of Uncle "Billy", Lorne and had a photo out of the newspaper of Uncle Elmer, he lived outin Clarence or West Seneca something the other side of Buffalo.I also remember my Grandmother talking about an Aunt Jean but I'm not sure if she was her sister or whom.
My Dad's getting pretty frail (born in 1929) and I'm trying to get any info out of him that I can while he's still around. He doesn't remember too much.Being the oldest I'm trying to gather info for my brother, Douglas Frederick Fortman and sister Kathy Ann Fortman Murphy for their families.
Just starting to collect info, I really don't have anything too old so I can't help with the link to Germany at this point.
