Veda, my address is 123 Bienville Ave., Mobile AL 36606, and my e-mail address is This is so interesting because I know Mildred Forte Shires, although I haven't seen her since I was teenager probably. She used to come to the memorials at Buena Vista cemetary, and one year she presented her research on the Forte family tree which traced us back to France. We always believed we were French until just recently, when we heard we might be English. It would be interesting to compare the two lineages. Anyway, my father tells me that Mildred is in a nursing home now and not in good health. I remember her as an excellent letter-writer and story-teller. She knew my father quite well. My uncle, Jerry Forte, who lives in Daphne, AL is supposed to be giving me a copy of the research tracing us to England, so when I get it I'll send you a copy. And I would appreciate any information you have. The Fortes on my side of the family tend to have brown hair and brown eyes, and they also go completely gray in their 30's, which I believe is starting to happen to me unfortunately! Your aunt Ruth is right--some Fortes have trouble with depression, and some have been known to hold a grudge for 20 years or longer. One of my aunts is like that, and doesn't speak to some family members. We do all favor each other a great deal--there is a characteristic "Forte nose." I'll share your information with my father, since he knows so much more than I do about the history, and if I find anything else out, I'll let you know. Keep in touch! Love, Karen
