This information has come from an old scrap book my father has full of newspaper clippings. They date from the early 1900's but they do not contain exact dates on them. I do not have the book, these are from notes I took from it. BURNED ALIVE __ Frightful Calamity in Which Mrs. Forsythe is Burned to Death __ Imlay - A most appalling affair occured Saturday morning when Mrs. James Forsythe was burned to death. It occured about ten o'clock. A dish of varnish was on the gasoline stove heating. The varnish boiled over and Mrs. Forsythe either tried to turn the fire off or take the varnish off when the varnish got on to her clothing and in an instant she was a mass of flames. She ran sreaming out of doors and ran towards a neighbor's house. A blanket was thrown around her, but the burns were very deep causing the flesh to fall of in large pieces. The burned woman was carried into the house and a doctor sent for. Dr. Martin came and dressed the burns. She was burned from her neck to her feet in a most terrible way. The suffering woman lived until about three o'clock in the afternoon when death came to her relief. She leaves a husband, two daughers and a son, and a mother Mrs. Frank Allen of this place and a brother George Wilbur of Dryden. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at two o'clock in the Baptish church, Rev. Taylor conducting the services. The deceased was a member of the Baptist church of the W. C. T. U., L. O. T. M. and Daughters of Rebekah, the orders attending the funeral in a body. Mrs Forsythe leaves a host of friends and the family have the sympathy of everyone in their awful bereavement. The lady was a sister-in-law of Mrs. John Williams of Lapeer. I hope this is helpful to someone searching this family. kathy Notify Administrator about this message?
