I have found an old letter sent to my ancestor, Abraham Thompson, from James Forsythe. From the references, it sounds like he was in PA. Here is the letter:

"Junior Furnace Febr 13th /48

Dear Nephew
I received yours of the 28th Dec and was happy to learn that you were all
well

We are all well at this time and hope this few lines will find you all
enjoying the same blessing.

We started the New Furnacea, Empirs, on New Years day, and she made a
first rate start. She made two hundred and forty eight tons eighteen
hundred and eighty pounds the first month, making nearly an average of
eight and a third tons per day.

And I think she is now making nine tons or upwards per day.

The last news I had from our friends in Adams County they were all well

This Furnace, (the Junior) has blowed nine months and six days, and had
averaged about eight and a third tons per day. We have a little metal to
weigh yet before we can tell exactly the average, but it will not differ
but very little from the above statement. We stoped up her last Thursday
for want of coal. We intend blowing an other blast on the same hearth. We
expect to start again about the tenth of April.

Give my love and Betsey's to Joe and Sally and all the children, we would
be glad to see you all. If we should all live I will be to see you in
eighteen hundred and fifty.

Betsy sends her compliments to you, John & Sarah Susan and all the
children sends their love to you all. Sarah wants to see her aunt ver much

Write to me when you receive this and direct your letter to Franklin
Furnace Post Office

Abraham S.. Thompson James Forsythe

(Address)

Franklin Furnace
February 21

Mr. Abraham S. Thompson
Callayway(sic) County
Locust Grove P. O.
Key"

Any help on the ancestory of this James, would be appreciated.

Jim Thompson
