Hi,
Having just found out that my grand-uncle's middle name was Forsyth, as in James Forsyth MacKay. I decided to check for that Family history & found your message.I have no idea of either of my Great grandparent's mother's maiden names, but as you said it was the custom to use it as a middle name for grandchildren. Then in the reply immediatley below your message, that person mentions the name Halliday & one of my aunts spent part of 1901 with a Jemima & William Halliday in Edinburgh, probably a relative to my John Henry MacKays there also.

I'd like to get some kind of definite connection between the MacKays, Forsyths, Hallidays & Greigs (my Great grandmother's maiden name), around the mid to early 19th century. Can anyone help? I haven't even begun to read all the other messages in this list.
