Please allow me to revive this thread.

Regarding the Elijah Forsyth of Rockbridge Co., VA, I have reason to believe he is not the same Elijah of the PA, OH, IN lines, and therefore not the Elijah as mentioned in the W.H. FORSYTH 1902-1988 Forsyth Family History 1985 publication; (sorry Eddy).

According to my sources, the Elijah2 of Rockbridge Co., VA came to the colonies with his [un-named] brother just prior to, and their participation in the Rev. War. Their port of immigration was Philadelphia, PA. They were separated during the war and the unamed brother lost. After the war Elijah married [unknown] in PA. In 1795 he bought 50 acres in Rockbridge Co., VA. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/rockbridge/deeds/rcvd1998/deedbkc.txt

His adult son James moved from PA with his wife (Mary Ewing) and infant firstborn (Anna) to Rockbridge Co. VA, in 1814. Of James and Mary were born Elizabeth, Jane, Martha, Isabelle, Elijah Jr., William, James Jr., and Mary, all in Rockbridge Co. William was the only male to survive and was my 2nd great-grandfather. His descendants moved on to Pike Co. KY, where my father was eventually born. James' sisters married mostly in Rockbridge Co. and moved on to Iowa.

The Elijah1 of the PA, OH, IN lines, had similar if not identical circumstances, but could not be the same person as pointed out in the email below:

“The source above [W.H. FORSYTH 1902-1988 Forsyth Family History 1985] is disputable as another Elijah & brother of identical circumstances rooted themselves in PA, with clear lineage to those in PA, OH and IL. In an email to Edward Forsyth, the following contradictions are delineated:

A copy of the affidavit I mentioned was passed to me from Frank James Forsyth and contradicts some accounts of others I've been in contact with: Dave and Sally Wierschke. If the affidavit is accurate, then we can identify the following contradictions:

1. Their account has Elijah1 (1745 - bef. 1829) and elder son returning to OH from VA. My account has Elijah2 (1745 - bef. 1832) dying from a mortal wound in VA, and buried in an unmarked grave "in the cemetery at Oxford church [Rockbridge Co., VA] not far from the spot where his son James was later buried".

2. Elijah2 (according to the affidavit) is said to have had searched in vain for his brother, but the Wierschke account has Elijah1 traveling from his and (brother) John's stomping ground in OH, to VA, and back again with an elder son.

3. Elijah1 by the Wierschke account returned to OH with an elder son, but Elijah1 had only one son: James Forsyth (1827-1908) - the affiants grandfather - and not of OH…”

The affidavit to which I refer was drafted/executed by Frank James Forsyth's brother H. Virgil Forsyth, J.D. (B. abt. 1882) for his father James Henry Forsyth (1852-1936)….

They can not be the same person, or were two or three people lumped together through logical but fallacious deduction.

A recent lead has Elijah2 b1752, having three brothers Thomas b.1745, John b.1749, and William b.1754, all fathered by William b.1725 and mother (unknown): all born in Ulster, Derry, Ireland. I have not yet been able to substantiate this claim, though it’s promising for the Elijah2 scenario.

I’m open to retort.
