I'm looking for information about a William Forsyth who was the postmaster of Northumberland, PA from 1837-1841. I found the following in a document online about the history of the town (http://www.northumberlandborough.com/history/Volume%20Three.pdf): "John Cowden at his death was succeeded by William Forsyth, grandfather of Mrs. Edwin Herr, one of the founders of the Priestley-Forsyth Memorial Library. William Forsyth held the postmastership for a little over four years—from January 26, 1837 until August 16, 1841. And this roster of the men and women who have held the office during the period a little short of a century since that time, with the dates when they were commissioned, or took office, is as follows: (...) John C. Forsyth, September 8, 1885 - January 27, 1890..." I believe that the John C. Forsyth mentioned above might be my great-great grandfather (John Curry Forsyth 1839-1915) who was married to Mary Alice Gulick and had a son named Charles Gulick Forsyth (1866-1920). I know we are also somehow linked to the Herr family mentioned in the document and I was told by my grandmother that we are somehow related (through marriage?) to the Joseph Priestley (1733-1804) who discovered oxygen (which probably has something to do with the reason why there is a Priestley-Forsyth library). If you have any information, please let me know. Thanks! Notify Administrator about this message?
