Elizabeth Forsee -m- William Alexander Hamilton?

My greats grandfather William Alexander Hamilton married someone named "Elizabeth" possibly even "Elizabeth Martha". He was born 1795 Scotland and died about 1865 Illinois.
She was born in Virginia 15 Aug 1808 and died in Arkansas 27 Mar 1879. Big question - who was she???
I found a marriage license obtained by a William Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Forse on 10 Dec 1839 in Madison County Illinois. Volume 006/ page 0045/ No. 00000777. unfortunately It does not show that it was used, or a marriage performed. I've been told by the nice Illinois people that there are other possibilities, other than it just not being used. It could have been used and the person performing the ceremony did not return it to be filed; or could have been used and returned and the person in charge of entering the information overlooked it.
This would have been the perfect time frame for their first child Hellen born 1841 & son Byron born 1843 both in Illinoi.
Need to find obits for both of them. His probably in Madison County Illinois. Hers probably in Carrollton Arkansas, either Carrol county or Boone county.
