Sorry, wish I had more information to share with you but I am stuck with the info I posted. I suspect that it is possible that this family was Scottish and arrived in NC about 1745 during the Scottish clearances but I have nothing to go on for this presumption. If indeed, John was born in NC, then this would be incorrect. This family could have been English and arrived in NC from VA or possibly Scot-Irish and arrived earlier. The surname would place them in England, Scotland or Ireland as a country of origin.
