Forrest Family Genealogy Forum
Goodness, what a discussion!
As far as twins go, I am the mom of 13-year-old identical twins, and here is what my doctor told me: Fraternal twins are the ones that run in families through the mother's side. (Mom releases two eggs; both are fertilized.) Identical twins are a fluke of nature. (One fertilized egg splits into two.)
Regarding names passed down in families, I too was always told that we were descendants of NBF. My grandfather's given name was Forest; his mother's maiden name was Forrest; there was an uncle named Bedford. But now that I have researched my Forrests, I can positively say that we are NOT descended from NBF. We may share ancestors with him, but I haven't gotten that far yet. Many people named their children after famous people. I have multiple ancestors named after George Washington, one named after John Calhoun, and one named after James Polk. It was a way of showing admiration and had nothing to do with lineage.
