I too have been told that I am a descendent in some way of Nathan Bedford Forrest; however, I am skeptical. I have relatives who live in Tennessee ... and there has always been someone named for NBF in my family. My maiden name is Cain (which is the name of my relatives in TN) and my dad would have been roughly the same age as NBF III who died in WWII. When I heard that NBF's only grandson died in WWII I became even more skeptical about this. I would like to figure this out in some way as every one in my immediate family is very reluctant to talk about this. I do know that there is some question about his truly being involved in the KKK or that he meant for it to become what it did.
If any know of the Cains being part of his family let me know. In the mean time I will ask my dad's sister what she knows. My dad passed away in 2007 ...
