My apologies if I offend, but seems to be one of the drawbacks of being a Forrest!:-)We appear to be genetically and spiritually close to Nathan Bedford Forrest's ancestry, as my father and grandfather were both named Anthony William Forrest, served in WWII (Burma Front) and WWI (Mesopotamia) respectively, both also worked with the Bombay India Railways, my father as an apprenticeblacksmith, my grandfather as a photographer at first and then as Press Superintendent (sp?) until he retired, being also a lithographer. Both loved by the people they worked with and who served under them. Both had problems with the odd superior at times, my father to the point of courtmartial charges (which were false and proven so), when he went to the aid of his men.I've also just found out that Nathan Bedford Forrest died on October 29th, my father's birthdate (1914).
However, all I know about my great-grandfather was that he joined the East Lancashire Regiment in Blackburn, Lancashire, UK, while living with an aunt and uncle, and went out to India with that regiment as a 15-year old drummer boy, dying young after marrying a young Indian girl from Kashmir and Rajustan, maiden name Bahadur, daughter of the Subhedar Major, Koor Bahadur, for the army of a Rajustan maharaja.
What caught my attention though, was Nathan's urging to name the little girl, Lee, because her eyes were so very blue.He may not have been quite so uneducated as some might write.Lee is also the pronunciation of the French 'lys', which is 'lily', and the most sacred of flowers for the Egyptian pharaohs (note the Egypt link) was the 'blue lily', or 'blue lotus', a relative of the 'iris'.In ancient Irish writings, the Egyptian pharaohs were called the 'Iris Kings' (Patricia Winthrop Palmer Boswell, privately printed research).Even today in Counties Kerry and Limerick, many people still pronounce the letter 's' as 'sh'.Also, one of the oldest sacred cities in Egypt, is 'Memphis'.There may have been more reasons than one, for his naming as 'Wizard'!:-)Are there links to 'fish' in the American Memphis area?Very distant cousin, Liz Forrest O Driscoll
