William J. Formby - GA
I need help in finding the chain of events to determine who the parents are of Wm. J. Formby who married Christian Ann Formby. Another Wm. J. Formby married a Susan and both of these men were born about 1823-1825 in GA.
Most of my data was given to me by other researchers and I have only recently tried to follow the trail of these men.
Wm. J. Formby (that married Susan) was in Heard County, GA in the 1850 census. I have been unable to find Wm. J. Formby (who married Christian Ann)in the 1850 census. Does anyone out there have that data? Wm. J. and Christian Ann married in 1842 in Newton County, GA. She is believed to be the daughter of Obadiah Formby who is in Newton County in 1830, 1840, & 1850.In 1860 Wm. J.and Christian Ann are in Floyd County, GA. Obadiah Formby is also in Floyd County in 1860. I have been unable to find Wm. J. (who married Susan) in the 1860 census. Does anyone have that data? Wm. J. (that married Christian Ann) died in 1862 during Civil War.
Wm. J. (that married Susan) was in LA in 1870 and in Arkansas in 1880.
I have been told that Wm. J. Formby (who married Susan) descendants have proof that he is the son of Aaron Formby and Susannah Thompson. Other researchers have given Aaron and Susannah as the parents of Wm. J. who married Christian Ann.
The only clue that I have about Wm. J. (Christian Ann's) is an affidavit given in 1899 by Moses Formby age 79 and Martha A. Formby age 74 stating they had known Christian Ann & Wm. J. since childhood and known Christian Annfor 70 odd years and that they first knew Wm. J. in Walton County, GA. The only Formby I found in 1830 census in Walton County were Nathan Formby b. 1760 and Moses (son of Nathan) b. 1797. Nathan had two sons would could possibly be the father of my Wm. J and that being Fountain b. 1786 and his brother Matthew Bates b. 1801. In fact I show Matthew Bates being married in 1822 with first child in 1833. Looks like there are children missing prior to 1833.
This is very confusing to me. I would appreciate any and all help sorting this out and would appreciate the Wm. J. (who married Susan) researchers giving me their thoughts and reasoning on this.
