MAGHERY, ARMAGH FORKERS - GEORGE, HARRY, MARY, MARGARET, EMILY
My Forker line comes from Maghery, Armagh. My grandfather Harry Forker born March 22, 1894, was the son of George Forker of Maghery, Moy, Armagh.Harry came to New York City in 1912, and stayed with his sister Mary A. Forker Campbell (wife of Patrick) on E. 4th Street. He was in the United States military for four years before enlisting in the Canadian over-seas expeditionary force in 1918.Harry had two other sisters who came to the United States in 1920 -(and stayed with Patrick and Mary Forker Campbell living on 6th Street then) Margaret Forker age 22 and Emily Forker age 20.Nothing else is known about Margaret and Emily.Harry married Ellen Donnelly from Portadown and they lived in Philadelphia.Harry and Ellen had fivechildren - Henry b. 1919 d. 1921, Terence b. 1920, Elizabeth, Sarah d. 2003,and Ellen (Nell) d. 1960's.Harry died in a tugboat accident in November 1928 at age 34, while working for Atlantic Refining Company.Harry's wife Ellen died September 1974 in Philadelphia.Mary Forker Campbell and her husband Patrick had no chileren, and returned to Armagh about 1948 or 1949.These Forkers are related to the Forkers in Armagh who operate the moss peat business, as my father, Terence Forker visited Ireland in the early 1980's and went on deliveries with his cousin Mickey Forker. My dad said that Mickey died a few years ago, but that his wife Rosaleen may still be living in Armagh. If anyone is related to or knows anything about this branch of Forkers, please email me, as my dad and I would love to know more.My dad was only eight years old when his father died, and I have been researching as much online as possible, and filling my dad in on what I have found.
