I can tell you this:

Michel Gouin and Marie Pievin were married in Sorel, QC. His parents names were left out of the register because his father Jean-Baptiste was living with a woman named Charlotte Auger, who he later married at St-Gabriel-de-Brandon, and at which ceremony Michel, a brother and sister were all legitimized.

I wrote an article on this Gouin family because the circumstances surrounding it were so unusual. Charlotte's mother may also have been an Indian, although no marriage for her parents exists to prove this. The article can be purchased from the American-French Genealogical Society, Woonsocket, RI in a past issue of Je Me Souviens, of which I was a former editor. Also some discussion on this family was conducted via the Internet at the various message boards/forums quite a while back, but I forget at which sites momentarily. It might behoove you to do a Google search using Charlotte Auger's name as a starting point.

As for your Forest family, they probably originally came from St-Jacques-l'Achigan. Did they settle in the Warren, RI area? If so, then they were in St-Gabriel de Brandon or its neighboring towns before moving there. Most of St-Gabriel, St-Damien and St-Didace's residents all made their way to the Warren/Bristol and Providence area of Rhode Island to find work in the textile mills of the area. Hope this is of some help to you in your search, Dennis Boudreau
