Bettie Marie Ford Reimers
WASKOM, TX- Bettie Marie Ford Reimers of Waskom, TX, 93 years old, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 in Shreveport, LA at Willis Knighton Hospital after a brief illness.
Bettie was born on October 30, 1915, to the late Joshua Ford and Ophelia Alverta Childress Ford near Oak Grove, LA. She was the second youngest of 14 children. She attended Northwestern State Normal College in Natchitoches, LA. Bettie was about 12 hours short of a teaching degree when she met the love of her life, Rudolph Reimers. They were married on May 27, 1936, by the Chief of Police in Natchitoches, LA. Bettie was a faithful member of New Hebron Baptist Church in Elysian Fields, TX for over 30 years where in years past she has been a Sunday School Teacher, a VBS Teacher and loved singing in the choir.
Bettie is preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph "Slim" Reimers and all of her siblings. She is survived by her sons, Paul R.H. Reimers, Jr. and his wife, Mary Nell and Joshua Diedrich Reimers; grandchildren, Jody Reimers, Rhonda Reimers Roathe and her husband, Lane, and Paula Reimers; great-grandchildren, Josh Reimers, Dustie Young and her husband, Dennie, Randall Talbert and Katie Belle Barnett; one great-great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Young and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. She was the "Grand Matriarch" of her loving family. Her depth of love, intelligence, independence, wonderful sense of humor and long visits around the kitchen table will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
