Hi Ruby, I don't know the names of James's parents but am interested at how you got the Henderson name. I don't know if I'm related at all to this family yet but if so then it is through Emily Henderson Forbus. She was born in South Carolina as was my Mary Ann Roper. Here's why it interests me. Both families were neighbors in DeKalb county, Alabama in 1850 and again in Itawamba County, Mississippi in 1860 and both groups are in Oak Grove cemetery. I have photos of the Roper and Forbus stones there.

1850 De Kalb County, Alabama Census, 394A, 82 82
James F Roper 37 1812 North Carolina Male Division 25, De Kalb, AL
Mary Roper 35 1814 South Carolina Female Division 25, De Kalb, AL
Harriet S Roper 16 1833 South Carolina Female Division 25, De Kalb, AL
Alex H Roper 12 1837 South Carolina Male Division 25, De Kalb, AL
Letty A Roper 10 1839 South Carolina Female Division 25, De Kalb, AL
Mary M Roper 9 1840 South Carolina Female Division 25, De Kalb, AL
Harteller Roper 7 1842 South Carolina Male Division 25, De Kalb, AL
Marna Roper 5 1844 Alabama Female Division 25, De Kalb, AL
James Roper 2 1847 Alabama Male Division 25, De Kalb, AL

1853 State Census of Itawamba County, Mississippi lists 5 Males and 4 females in the household of J. F. Roper. The males would be James F, Alex H., Henry, William Hamilton, and James M Roper. The females would be Mary Ann, , Letha Ann, and Mary M., and Manerva C. Roper. Daughter, Harriett S. Roper must have already been married as she did get married in 1853.
