I am looking for any information on the family of a g.g. grandmother of mine, Ann Forbes. Ann Forbes was born in 1810 in Tarland, Aberdeenshire, Scotland to "Squire" Forbes and his wife (name unknown to me). Squire Forbes was apparently a well-to-do landowner. Ann fell in love with James Fleming, the son of the estate's carpenter and was disowned by her father when she married him. James and Ann emigrated to Canada and settled at Thornhill, Ontario. Two sons were born to them before James died as a very young man. Ann then married Robert Mitchell (b. 1808 Armagh, NI) and bore seven more children. Only two survived childhood. In one week in March 1844 they lost four of their children, aged 13 months to 13 years, likely to an epidemic. A fifth child died the following August. Two boys, one of them my gr. grandfather, John Forbes Mitchell, survived into adulthood along with the two boys from Ann's marriage to James Fleming. Ann died in 1894 at the age of 84 years. I am relatively new to genealogy and haven't managed to trace the Forbes line back to the point of finding the rest of the family in or around Tarland. I would be very interested in any Forbes information relating to this family. Thank you.
