My g.g.g.g.g.g.g grandfather was "Blackwull" or "Black Wull" Forbes of Reisgill, Latheron, County of Caithness The family story is that he was a minor Forbes chieftan of "ill-fame" and a jacobite who fought at Culloden and escaped and lived off the land for a few years before settling at Reisgill. There is no clear link but it is suggested he was related to the Forbes of Culloden, possibly descended from the second or third Laird. If so this would be a great breakthrough as the genealogy of the Lairds would seem easier to trace given their prominence. Black Wull had a son James born before the battle of Culloden. I'm not sure who James' wife was but James had six sons one of whom was Alexander born 11 Nov 1770. Alexander Forbes married a kin Margaret Forbes on 18 Jun 1793. I don't know much about Margaret but would be interested to hear more if anyone knows anything. Their second son, my g.g.g.g. granfather, John of Blackness Forbes was born on 2 Apr 1797. He married Ann Simpson on 24 Apr 1829. By going to the following site and searching entering John and Ann as parents you will get all their six children: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp Their eldest son Alexander born on 13 Aug 1833 married Helen Muirden on 28 Apr 1854 my g.g.g. grandparents took their young family to Australia in 1871. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who has a link to or knows something about or has questions about any of these people. Rob Mailler
