Hi Mike! Have you heard back from Ernest L. Butler yet? Some counties in the NE kept records of children that were placed under the care of guadians. You might want to see if there is anyone around Herkimer willing to do a lookup. Or hire someone for that purpose. I recently hired a woman to check records in NH from 1700-1830 and she sent me lots of birth, death and marriage records. It was a good investment. If Ann Eliza was b. in OH, you might not find much about her birth. There may be a copy of a newspaper from back then. The Hale/Smart line moved from MA-NH to Meigs County, OH around 1816 and are no birth records for any of the children. I've had to use marriage and census records to get those early dates. Still hunting for a few graves in Kansas, too. Have you been to the LDS in SLC? They have LOTS of information and you could probably find more info there. I want to stop there this summer on the way to Oregon for the Walker/Hale reunion. If Ann Eliza was adopted in OH in 1836, it might be hard to trace that. As you go West, less paperwork was required for taking in a child and names were changed without all the legal formalities. Do you still have copies of the gravestones from Wisconsin? Good to see you're still searching the family lines. Want me to send you stuff as I find it? I've come across things and wondered if you knew about them. Hey - thanks for corresponding with my mom. She keeps some Collie family photos handy at her home. To see my current dog, see my website at http://www.stephenhale.com . I hope to add genealogy to that next. Blessing you, Irene Hale Notify Administrator about this message?
