Good Afternoon Robert,
I few days ago, I contacted Family Tree Maker's World Family Tree Contributer Service for the name of the submitter of Tree 0631, Volume 7. Imagine my surprise when I learned the submitter was you!
I bought Volume 11, but after I installed it, it would not open my Family Tree Maker Archive CDs, so I returned it for credit. Before I returned it, I uninstalled V. 11 and reinstalled V. 9.5, then I could not open my family file, because it had been created with V. 11. So I uninstalled V. 9.5, reinstalled V. 11, and saved my family file as a 9.5 file. Uninstalled V. 11, reinstalled V. 9.5, and I am back in business. Thank goodness I checked before I returned V. 11.
Genealogy has taken over my life. I now have 60,000+ individuals in my database. Fontenots are the largest group with Guillorys running a close second.
I talked to James Reed, Editor, Evangeline Genealogical & Historical Society, Ville Platte, LA. James told readers of La Voix des Prairies, the quarterly newsletter of the EG&HS, that plans are to publish corrections and additions to the Fontenot book, "sometime in the future". I asked if he thought it would interfere with the sale of their next book if I published my Fontenot research, and he didn't think it would, because he said, "the work is done by volunteers and it will be some time before we are in a position to publish".
When I received my copy of the Fontenot book, I was amazed to see how we had followed the same people. Since that time, I have acquired cemetery records and have linked lots of couples who married in a civil ceremony to their parents.
My son, Joe, thinks I should get a web site and offer to do genealogy research for others, for a fee, of course. If you click on my name, on this site and at Ancestry.com, you will see how many queries I have replied to, and I have replied to many more addressed to me at home.
Recently, The Birmingham News reported that the Birmingham Library is second-best in the nation for genealogy research. I got lucky. The library is just a 15-minute drive from my house.
How long have you lived in DeRidder? You may write me at home, if you wish. My email address is the same: [email protected]
I am glad you wrote.
Regards
Rosie
