Fontain Fontein Netherlands / Germany (Pannerden)
FONTAIN : FONTAINE : FONTEIN : FONTIJN : FONTYN :
Doing genealogical research in The Netherlands - Germany (Liemers area) on my family, and traced
Jan Fontain (also Fontein) in Pannerden in the year 1643.
In 1643 Jan Fontain bought the Mill in Pannerden.
There is no sign of Jan's parents or family before 1643.
He might have come to Pannerden (Liemers, German-Kleve
area before 1816) from Germany or as a (French/Belgium/Spanish?)
Catholic soldier with the Spanish army to fight Maurits* van Oranje - Fredrik Hendrik van Oranje
(*who had his military camp nearby in Zevenaar/Seventer - Gelderland).
Any input on Jan's origin would be greatly appreciated.
PS-1: So far we could NOT make any connection to other Dutch Font*n-branches:
Zaandam
Leiden (from Luik - Liege, Belgium)
Amstelveen (from Sleeswijk Gemany)
Friesland
Jewish branche form Horsovsky Tyn who came to The Netherlands / Gouda
Limburg
PS-2: In Ost Friesland (Germany) Fontein and
Fontain have the same meaning:
Fon = From (ENG) - Von (German)
Tein and Tain = Ten (ENG) - Zehn (German)
Thank you,
Peter J. Fontijn
