Exactly. Godefroy Simeon Fontaine Sr. died when he went out berrying. The death record you found matches with the newspaper article for the time of death and age. I have Godefroy Simeon Fontaine being born on 20-Feb-1816 in La-Presentation, St-Hyacinthe, Quebec from you and the 1880 Hampstead, NH census. He would be 78 in 1894 according to this.

I don't know why I attributed the newspaper article to his grandson (son of Narcisse; with the same name of Godfroi), but all the pieces make more sense when matching the death record with the newspaper story.
