Hello, I just found this posting. First, no: I do not speak Dutch. However, I do have both Fonseca and d'Fonseca in my maternal line. My grandmother Marie Fonseca, daughter of Gerard Fonseca and Flora Vanier were all from Parimaribo; she had a sister Guillaumin (sp) who married one Jacob d'Fonseca. I am looking for Fonseca information that would take me back past Gerard---also, any Vanier info. My d'Fonseca cousins now in the state of LA might provide info on their side. My Vanier and Fonseca lines go back to the mid-1700s in what is now Suriname. I don't speak Dutch because my Fonseca grandfather and his wife's Vanier siblings (all except one) migrated to a part of the country that is now Guyana sometime in the late 1800s. The most prominent member of the Vanier family was a physician in Parimaribo: Guillaum (sp) Vanier, Flora's brother. Look forward to communicating with you. Thanks, Alan in Alabama
