Hi Melvyn,
I am not sure about your family's direct descendants, but I can tell you a little about the "Fones" you saw during your visit to Pearl Harbor.
He was George Everett Fones, my Great-uncle. He died on the U.S.S. Arizona. He was a brother of Arthur M. Fones, Jr. and Mildred Fones. My father, Kenneth Fones-Wolf, is the son of Arthur M. Fones, Jr.
Most of the Fones family related to George Everett Fones has lived in Northern Virginia for at least 300 years.
Currently, I live in Washington, D.C.
I would be very interested to know the background of your family name.
