The only "secondary (or is it tertiary?) evidence" linking Captain John FONES, b. say 1635and died 20 Dec 1703 Kingston?, RI, That I have found, is a transcription of a manuscript pedigree in William H. Whitmore, "Notes on the Winthrop Family and its English Connections, Viz: The Families of Forth, Clopton, Tyndale and Fones" in The New England Historic Genealogical Society Register 18(April 1864):185-186. However, it does not seem to mention "our" John specifically.
