John O. Fonda b1791, is the son of Abraham O. Fonda b1744, son of Abraham Janse Fonda b1708, s/o Jan Douwese Fonda b1668, s/o Douw Jellise Fonda b1641, s/o Jellis Douw Fonda b1604, the original patriarch of the Fonda clan in America.

See my new website for more details:

There are five descendant lines stemming from Jellis Douw Fonda... first, his son Douw Jellis, was the only son who had children... four grandsons, Jan, Jellis, Isaac and Claas each have large descendant lines. You are in the Jan Douw Fonda line. One of his 5 granddaughters, Rebecca, had two grandaughters who married Fonda's, so her line continues, making a (small) fifth line.

Questions for you... 1) is Abraham O. Fonda's middle name also Osterhoudt?, 2) where does that family name come from? and 3) Abraham's first wife was Rachel Van Valkenburg, John O. was the 3rd of her 4 children... Rachel died in 1783 and Abraham married 2nd Margaret Grimes Best and they had 4 more children. Do you know if her maiden name is Grimes or Best? I suspect that she may have married before since she was 32 when she married Abraham.
