You are correct with the four children of Adam Douw and Lydia Sammons. Stephen S. Fonda had two wives. He married Christina Fox March 12, 1856 and Margaretta Fox on June 5, 1878. The children you have listed for Christina Fox are correct. It is certainly possible that Peter was a sheriff in that community. The Fonda's there were always involved in politics as either judges, sheriffs, assemblymen, lawyers, etc. Abbie Lydia is the only child I have for Peter Adam. I will look for more on Peter at the archives.
