A likely candidate for your judge is, I think, Jelles Fonda, b. 1727, m. Jannetje Vrooman, 1757, at the Reformed Dutch Church of Schenectady, and d., probably in Palatine, 23 June 1791, notice of his death being recorded (in German) in the records of the Reformed Church of Fort Plain.

As one of the "principal freeholders and inhabitants of the Mohawk River and settlements adjacent" he signed a petition to form Tryon County in 1771. In Dec. 1779 he is mentioned in his father (Douw's) will. In May 1780 his house, mill, and ashery were destroyed during Sir John Johnson's raid.

He is listed in the federal census of Palatine Town in 1790. The Jane Fonda, who is listed in the 1800 census of the Town(ship) of Johnstown as a head of her family, is presumably his widow Jannetje. His will can be found at the Montgomery Co. Court House in Fonda, NY.
