Dave -

I don't speak French, but I think the websites you posted refer to a Saint Robert - who founded an abbey or a diocese. Fonda means "founded" in French, I think. I think it means bottom or fountain in Italian.

I also saw another posting of yours regarding your link between the Fondas of Holland and the first Fondas who came to North America - please elaborate.
