Adam Fonda, born Dec. 26 1733 in Caughnawaga (Fonda, Montgomery Co., NY) married Neetse Brise Mar 14, 1761. Adam died Nov. 20, 1804. Neeltse died Dec. 12 1820

Children: Maria, Wyntre, Douw, Douw A., Henry Adam..

Adam was the son of Douw Jellis Fonda, born Aug 22, 1700 in Schenectady. Douw Jellis moved to Caughnawaga where he was killed and scalped at the age of eighty by a Mohawk Indian named Peter One Arm on May 22, 1780 during a Tory raid on the village of Caughnawaga. Douw Jellis Fonda married Maritje Vrooman, Oct. 29, 1725. Maritje b. Mar 24, 1697/1698 in Schenectady. Died Jan 30, 1756 in Caughnawaga, Montgomery, Co., NY
Children: Jellis, Rachel, Adam, Margaretta, Johannes, & Margaret.

The Fondas moved from an area in Northern Slovenia near Piran, Slovenia. Dominicus Fonda is listed in the Piran town archives in 1230 AD. Movement was then made to the area of Northeastern Italy or Tieste. From there to the Netherlands area in conjunction with mecantile interests of which the family was then engaged.

If you have interest, I can trace the Fonda line back to Adams great, great, great, grandfather Evert Benedictus.
Evert Benedictus who was born in Eagum, Friesland about 1549 and died in 1610.

The family becomes hard to trace from this point back due to the then common practice of the use of Latin names rather than family names on legal documents.
