My husband's 3rd great grandparents were Amos Barnum and Susan (Fonda) Gage. From a history I own written by Porter Matteson, it states the following: "In view of the fact that three descendants of William Montgomery Gage married Fonda's, I am therefore giving a brief history of the Fonda family in America. Jellis Douwse Fonda came to America from Holland, settling in Beverwyck, now Albany, New York in 1654. He married A. Hester and their son Douw Jellis was the father of six children and his son Isaac was the ancestor of the Fonda's who married Gage's. Would love to share info on this family. This is as far back as I have, but can give everything from this point to present day! Amos and Susan (Fonda) Gage had the following children:
(1)William Montgomery Gage born 11 Nov 1843 and died 23 Feb 1934. Buried in Nokomis Cemetery in Nokomis, Il.(My husband's great, great grandfather) William's great grandfather Walter was a Pvt in the Rev. War in Vermont and his great, great grandfather was Captain William Montgomery Gage, who also served in the Rev. War with the state of Vermont!
(2)James Horatio Gage born 28 June 1846 and died 22 July 1848
(3)Amos Whitney Gage born 14 June 1860 and died 1920 in Montgomery County, Il. Buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Hillsboro, Il.
(4) Effie Noble Gage born 12 Dec 1857. Died in Montgomery County, Il.
Would be happy to share info!
