Hi Mark,
Thanks for your reply. I thank you for your input regarding your Follis name. I too believe, just from studying the earliest names I can find on record coming out of Scotland and by comparing them with names spelled similarly in Nor. Ireland and again in Nor. America, that Follis, Foulis, Fowlis, Foules no matter how you spell it, are all from the same root so to speak.
It sounds like you are in a similar situation as I am with our Moody family line. We need more Ydna participants Particularly from Scotland and Nor. Ireland in order to help us solve the riddle of just Where our Moody (Mudie/Moodie) family tree fits in. We know we are of ancient Norse Ydna tied to the Scots by way of documented genealogies that made their way to Co. L'derry, Antrim, Armagh and Down in Nor. Ireland and then some eventually came to Nor. America settling both here and in Canada.
We have Ydna cousins as far away as Australia and New Zealand as well, and the stories are basically the same with all of the various families...their Moody (Mudie/Moodie)roots came out of Fifeshire, Scotland. With the destruction of the Scottish and Nor. Ireland records after the plantations of Nor. Ireland, (except those that still remain intact in the Presbyterian churches where we have found a great deal of information), our historical VR's are mighty scant as I am sure you have observed as well.
Its a real shame, but thank goodness we do have the tool of Ydna these days to help set the old Incorrect genealogies straight once and for all by showing which lineage lines we Do belong to and which ones we Don't so we can at least stop wasting good research time barking up the wrong trees.
Thanks again for your input, and good luck to you in your own research. Hopefully one day we will all have our answers.
