I cannnot help but feel that I may have struck on a bit of a scandal here! Arthur Crouch Folkard in the 1891 census is living in Marylebone with my great grandmother, Bessie Benning and her 2 children, my gran aged 8, and a son, Arthur L Benning. Now this son, aged 2, cannot be her husband's son because Bessie left her husband in S|Africa in 1887. Four years later she has this son named Arthur, aged 2. No mention has ever been made in our family of him, we thought my gran was an only child!
So now I am off on another tack - trying to trace my great uncle - nil so far, but who knows?
Lots of things tie this up for me - the Brighton connection, the Indian/Ceylon connection etc.
If you find any more, or I do, let's keep each other posted.
Sue Bennett
