James B Folden filed on a pre-emption claim of 120 acres in that part of Wyoming Precinct now known as Berlin Precinct. In March 1859 he was appointed constable by the county commissioners and his bond was approved. Apparently he was appointed a second time for they approved his bond a second time in January 1860. In the census of 1860 Mr. Folden was called a farmer, 34 years of age and a native of Indiana. Elizabeth his wife, was 35 and also a native of Indiana. She could neither read nor write. There were four children in the family: Isabella, aged eight years; Martha, aged seven; Mary, aged four; and William A, aged three. Mr. Folden owned 120 acres of land valued at $1,500.00 of which 16 acres were under cultivation. His farm implements were worth $20.00. His livestock consisted of three milch (milk) cows and six hogs worth altogether $100.00. No crops were mentioned. In March 1861 Mr. Folden served on the jury. By October 1865 Mr. Folden was living in Cass County and served on the grand jury at Plattsmouth. In March 1871 he and a partner leased a flour mill at Factoryville. His wife apparently had died and he married again for in a suit filed against him his wife was named as Sarah J Folden.
