Gwen: The first Caleb Fobes I know of received a land grant from Norwich CT in 1672. He served with the CT Volunteers in the Narragansett Campaign of King Phillips War.
He had a son Caleb, and I expect the family name was carried on. I have a picture of a descendent's (Simeon) house built circa 1760. The Caleb that went to Walbridge and Ohio is surely from this pioneer family. Many went to
the "Western Reserve" - along the eastern
border (Ohio/PA) that once belonged to CT. I have visited the old Family Cemetery in Preston and have photographs that I took at the back of a cornfield appx. 20 years ago.
I am willing to share.
