First, I find it interesting that there's another Jon Fobes out there posting messages to this site. Second, I am an Ohio Fobes who grew up in Kingsville, which was once called Fobesdale. I have Fobes info that goes back to the first Fobes, John Fobes, who landed in Duxbury, Mass., in 1636. He was the son of the Rev. John Forbes who fled to Holland in the late 1500s with the rest of the Pilgrims. His son developed an accent, so when he came to America his name was recorded as Fobes not Forbes. And that's how the Fobes name got started. Oldest known ancestor to this line is John De Forbes, Scotland, 1250. Want more? Current e-mail is jonfobes@excite.com. However, soon look for 3 web pages at www.fobes.net.
