I purchased the subject studio portrait of a young man taken by Smith, Garrettsville, OH. It is identified on the back of the mount in period ink handwriting: "Royal Andrew Fobes. Dec 25 1895" This individual appears in a Public Member Tree posted on ancestry.com. He is listed in the 1880 Census data for Cleveland (resided at 243 Detroit), Cuyahoga Co., OH; the 1910 Census data for Los Angeles (resided on Ocean Avenue), Los Angeles Co., CA; and the 1920 and 1930 Census data for Los Angeles (resided at 1545 Gardner Street), Los Angeles Co., CA. His 1918 WWI draft registration card and a 1919 passport application (with attached photo) are available. He is also included in the "California Death Index, 1940-1997." Royal Andrew Fobes, born 22 May 1877 in Nelson, OH, died 12 Jul 1942 in Los Angeles Co., CA, was the son of a dry goods clerk, Frank A. Fobes (1851-) and Ruie J. (maiden name unknown) (1855-). Royal was employed as a lumber salesman. He married Alice G. Price, born about 1882 in OH. The couple had two children (both born in CA): Mary Belle Fobes, born about 1911, and Francis S. Fobes, born 2 Aug 1912. Contact me for free scans. Notify Administrator about this message?
