Richard's will was probated in Richmond Co., VA, 06 July 1752.
In a court held for Richmond Co., (VA) the 6 day of July 1752, this will was presented in court by Jno. Flynt & Richard Flynt, the execors. therein named who made oath thereto according to law & being proved by the oaths of Augustine Sanford, James Barker & Robert Sanford, to with: Test T. Tarpley, D.Co. Cur. Richard was named as a residuary legatee with William, son of Thomas Barker, in the will of Thomas Martin in 1692, with his father Richard Sr. named as executor along with Thomas Barker. No relation was stated. Richard's father sold him two slave boys named Harry and Cesar and some cows on 11 Nov 1718.Richard purchased 100 acres on the Rappahannock River from Thomas Edwards in 1726.
By April 1731 Richard had married Elizabeth Reeves. On 5 Sep 1731, Richard Flynt reassigned to Thomas Edwards a tract on the Rappahannock River in Lancaster which he had purchased from Edwards in 1726.Shortly before, Richard had moved to adjacent Richmond Co, VA. where he bought 273 acres from Charles Bruce, part formerly held by William Barker Jr. on 1 Jun 1731.He purchased from William Carter 95 acres more in Richmond's Lunenburg Parish on the south side of the main branch of Charles' Beaverdam adjoining John Morton and William Barker in 1733.Richard and his son by the same name served as county surveyor of roads in the area of the Beaverdam and the old courthouse many times, as early as 3 Feb 1734 and as late as 4 Aug 1761.
Richard's wife, Elizabeth, died and he remarried to Mary (Muse) Sanford Remy. In Sep 1742, probably as a settlement in anticipation of the marriage, Richard deeded slaves to his four children, two of whom were still under age.Richard was fined in court as a "common profane swearer" on 7 Nov 1748.
Richard Flynt and Elizabeth Reeves had the following children:
10 i. Mary Ellen3 Flynt was born in Lancaster Co.,, VA before 1749, the first event for which there is a recorded date.Mary died before 1749 in Lancaster Co., VA.She married John Muse.John was born in Westmoreland Co., VA.

Thomas Flynt, then of Christ Church Parish in Lancaster, married Elizabeth Wright before May 12, 1719, when they sold her share of a tract given by her father John Wright to his two daughters, Elizabeth and her sister Mary who had married John Norris (Deeds 11:119). In 1743/4 Thomas served as executor under his brother David's will (Lee,p.86).On August 8, 1745, apparently in anticipation of a second marriage, he settled certain slaves on his children Mary Rogers, Sarah Hammond, Betty, Mary, and Thomas Flynt (Deeds 14:92).
With the departure of his brother Richard to Richmond County and then his brother John to Northumberland County, Thomas became the only one of his surname left in Lancaster County.
Thomas Flynt and Elizabeth Wright had the following children:
15 i. Mary3 Flynt was born circa 1720.Mary died after 1765.She married John Rogers before 1745.John died 1765.

John Flynt moved from St. Mary's Chapel Parish in Lancaster Co, VA after he made his will to Northumberland Co, VA.His inventory included slaves named Caesar and Mark. By this time there seem to have been no other Flynt families remaining in the area.John named his wife Ruth, his children, and his sons, of whom only John a minor was named.
John Flynt and Ruth had the following children:
+ 19 i. Thomas3 Flynt was born circa 1730.

John was the first of the family to move west to Culpeper Co, VA, where he witnessed a deed of 20 Sep 1759.He was exempted from the county levies on 17 Mar 1763, likley for some physical handicap for he was still not 50 years of age.On 14 May 1770, identifying himself as John Flynt of Brumfield Parish, Culpeper Co, VA, he sold a reversion of 40 acres of his father Richard Flynt's tract on Charles' Beaverdam in Richmond Co, VA which had come to him upon the death of James son of William Barker, to whom Richard had sold it for life in an instrument which was not recorded or does not survive. Another deed concerning 60 acres of the original tract, when sold by Barker's executor, suggests that James Barker had held it in right of his mother.Certain related papers had been lost in a fire at Essex courthouse, although it is not clear why they would have been located there. The Richmond Co, VA deed books apparently do not contain recorded deeds showing the disposition of the land left by Richard Flynt tohis sons under his will.
John Flynt purchased in 1779 and sold in 1785 land in Culpeper Co, VA adjoining Richard Flynt.John Flynt was paid for making shoes for the orphan of Edward Bush, and had charge of Bush's estate in the 1782 tax listing.A Bible record gives John's wife name as Eleanor and the names and birthdates of his children. Two of them, John and Thomas, were named as titheables in his household in 1787. Stephen was listed separately in 1789.John disappeared from the Culpeper Tax listts after 1788, perhaps upon moving elsewhere.

Her tombstone at the Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Wilkes County Georgia reads, Sarah Porter Flynt, wife of John Flynt, born Orange County, Virginia, February 14, 1768.Died Wilkes County, Georgia, March 21, 1843. "Alas she is dead and grief is vain. Nor would we wish her back again, but still affectionate tribute would drop o'er memory." John was listed as a participant in the Revolutionary War Battle of Kettle Creek which occured in Wilkes Co, Georgia, on February 14 1779.If that is correct then he may have seen some opportunity there which led to his return there in 1789 after his marriage.
In 1793, the Wilkes County tax digest showed John Flint to have 100 acres of land and three slaves valued at 15 pounds.John bought and sold land.He was paid for constructing a coffin.A desk also made by him remains in the Flynt family. At his death his estate included six slaves and land holdings in Wilkes, Jasper, Monroe, and Columbia counties.

Richard and his wife moved to Bethania, then Surry Co, NC late in the summer of 1781 (N&E I,1,p4).

She had named the oldest son Perry for his grandmother Flynt's maiden name, Ann Perry, her son Richard for his grandfather Richard Flynt and possibly Meredith for her maiden name (Catharine Meredith?).There were three Meredith families in old Stokes Co, John, James and William. John was grew up in Culpeper Co.,VA.He served in the American Revolution as a cavalryman in Colonel William Washington's Third Dragoons of General Nathaniel Greene's Army.He was at the battles of Cowpens and Guilford Courthouse. While on this campaign of about three months he visited the area where he would later settle.
The Flynt family was large and there was not enough land for them all in Virginia and the land in North Carolina had good possibilities.A family tradition states that John and his brother William brought about twenty-five starving cavalry horses from Colonel Washington's unit to the spot where they later settled in search for forage. They found open meadowland and wild peavines along the bottom land. They dearly loved horses, and thought that if animals could find food outdoors in the winter, this was the place for them to come back and live.
The family all came John and his family, his father's family, and his brother and sisters and their families. They brought slaves, horses, cattle and household goods. John received a grant of 200 acres in the waters of Mill Creek, Stokes Co, NC on the 29 Nov 1797. He remained there until he died.

William Flynt of Culpeper and Stokes Counties (Knorr, p 34; Madison County, Va. Deeds 8: 205; N.C. Historical Commission, Publications, Records of the Moravians in North Carolina 6: 3281)
William Flynts' Rural Hall home was still in the family in October 1983, the widow of Vernon Flynt maintains many of the original family heirlooms there.A drive lined with dogwoods, evergreens, and row hedges terminating at a immaculately preserved and picturesque white house accented with black shutters.
Framing the house, left and right, were old log cabins. One had been slave quarters prior to the Civil War; the other, a feed barn or corn crib. The house has the original plank board ceiling. The boards had been hand hewn and put together with sharp nails made on the farm. The main part of the house had been built with huge logs. The house had not been weatherboarded until the marriage of Eliza Spainhour in 1839.
Procter B. Flynt's North Carolina Militia war commission was displayed there. The heart pine foors were once trampled by Yankee soldiers.Led by General Stoneman, the men ravaged the home; but luckily, the family had buried their money under the chicken coop. The slave quarters were used as a weaving rooom after the War.
There are several original furnishings in the house. There is a walnut chest with its original brasses and a cherry corner cupboard.Items of interest include a pencil sketch of Fountian Flynt, a knife box with original bone-handle knives and forks and original wheat baskets also made on the farm.
"The Transformation of Virginia"tell of a New Light Moravian movement that lured some Virginians in the eighteenth century to join the new religious sect. There has been some speculation that William may have been influenced by this movement and had some influence on the family moving there as he joined the Moravian Church at Bethania in North Carolina.
