My Dear Debby James,
Thanks for your contact. Coming on the heels of the similar inquiry from Amy - #927 and my study of the situation reported in #928, I suggest to you that the one that I considered and ruled out for Amy just possibly could be what YOU'RE looking for.
You MAY want to visit those postings, if you have not already done so.
I refer to the daughter of Jeremiah, whosepresence in his family is indicated, but for whom we have no name, and we don't know what became of her.It very well could be Susan, who married John Hutcherson, that we have been looking for.
The suggested birth year of 1815, & the birth county, Maury; and the residence next door to "Rev," John Fly in 1850 are intriguing "plusses".
What form of marriage record gives you the marriage date (1830's)?Surely the Maury County Marriage record would give the bride's name, so you must NOT have found it in the Maury County marriage records.Have you looked? If so, have you consulted thebook(s) that deal with the omitted marriage bonds of Maury.By that I mean that many of the marriages were NOT transferred from the BOND to the BOOK.Among these were John Richard Fly, b. 1811 and Jeremiah Nicholas Fly, b. 1807 when they tied the knot in Maury.I found their bonds in the basement of the courthouse where I was permitted to search the packets of bonds. (That was circa 1961)Likewise I found "Rev." John's SECOND marriage to Lydia Newton in the same manner.
IF you have NOT yet checked the basic list of Maury Marriages and one or another of these supplemental lists, there is a GOOD possibility that the information about Susan's surname can be revealed by finding the official wedding record or the unposted wedding record. What do you tell me here?
I understand that in 1850 the brother of Sarah Lavina (Daniels) McCoy was a second-door-away neighbor to "Rev." John; and HE probably was the matchmaker for John and the widow McCoy. Interesting that Susan lived here."Rev." John would have been her UNCLE in the suggested relationship.
I am TREMENDOUSLY interested in the possibility that you may be onto something here; and just MAY have an important addition to our information on the Jeremiah Fly descent.
Anxious to hear back from you.
James Whitney Fly
