In memory of James W. Fly - Deceased 8-19-2009

With great sadness, I have to tell this forum that James Whitney Fly (Cousin Jim to many of you) left this world for his reward in the next world on August 19, 2009. He was 87. His son Jim Fly notified me early this AM. He will be buried in Montgomery, AL. next to his beloved wife Vivian, who worked with him on Fly family research until her death.

Jim was suffering with Parkinson disease. He fell in the nursing home and received a concussion. His daughter, Kathy, (a nurse) felt he was ready to pass on.

I had worked with Jim for the last 20 years on Fly history.

Jack Fly and I had spent the weekend with Jim last month and went through his records with him. Jim had organized his records and was able to show us which were the most important. We arranged to have them scanned and put on CD's. Jack and I took many records to scan and put on CD.

I have his large wall charts with the New England Fly's. It will probably take a while to enter them. Everyone have patience. Jim was never able to prove relationship to the southern group that we are the most familiar with.

We will miss Jim and his knowledge of the Fly family. Jack and I will try to answer questions. We do have a copy of his database, which now consists of 13,900 names.

Henry Ed
