I found some information that may prove fruitful for you. My grandmother, Alcie Mae Johnson, married William Houston Flurry in Marion County, Alabama in 1906. William was married before and had a son, James Elmer Flurry. Evidently, he went to live with others after his father's death for he does not show on the 1920 census with my grandmother and her new husband (and my grandfather), William A. Threadgill.
I was curious about James Elmer's and in my search, I found a Phelan Flurry (of the same age as your Phelan) living in Van Buren, Crawford Co. AR. It indicates that he is married, however no wife is listed. He and Lecil Flurry age 9, Adam age 18 and Elmer age 14 are living with C. W. Coker.
There is also a Elmer Flurry in the same township age 20 which would be the right age for William H. Flurry's son. He is working for James and Lillian Shipley.
