The earliest John Floyd I have found is listed in the Records of Flowerdieu Hundred (Jamestown) VA. He was in 1629 a member of the House of Burgesses. I am sure you know that there are many Johns in the records since that time. In the Census of SC for 1810, I find two Johns in Chester County which seems to coincide with your info. You might look up the census taker's notes on microfilm - they sometimes included birth and other data. I will send you the piece on the killing of the sheriff in Chester and other writings as soon as I can do a little more digging. I am virtually certain that Nathaniel Floyd was the first of this name in this country, who came before 1624 in the Bona Nova, a vessel of 200 tons. For an excellent account of the early VA John Floyds, I strongly suggest SMYTH COUNTY HISTORY AND TRADITIONS by Goodridge Wilson, VA Book Co., Berryville, VA. It is romanticised, but as a Floyd descendant, you will love it. More info later as I find it. HBF Notify Administrator about this message?
