From the Chicago Daily Democrat - August 25, 1860 Page 1 advertisement: PENNY POST! PENNY POST! READ! READ! Cheap! Prompt! Reliable! FLOYD'S PENNY POST! HAVING JUST ESTABLISHED A PENNY POST in this city, under the above title, the attention of RAILROADS, BANKS, BROKERS, INSURANCE AGENTS, MERCHANTS, and citizens generally, are invited to the facilities it offers them for the speedy transit of Letters, Circulars, Notices, Ec., not only to and from the Post Office but to ALL PARTS OF THE CITY, for the small sum of ONE CENT. I intend to make promptness my motto, and promise the patrons of "FLOYD'S PENNY POST" that any business entrusted to my care shall have my own personal superintendence. All I ask of the citizens is a fair trial, and if then satisfied, a continuance of their patronage. All letters must be prepaid by stamps, which can be obtained at almost every corner in the city, and at the general office, No. 8 Rice's block, 77 Dearborn street. John R. Floyd, P. O. Box 2976 N.B. To citizens who have no boxes in the Post Office, the Penny Post offers peculiar advantages. Chicago, July 2d., 1860 Notify Administrator about this message?
