John W and Oretha Ann are buried at the Floyd cemetery.

Dolphin Ward Floyd, killed at the Alamo, was a brother of John W. John W was the fourth child and oldest son of Thomas Penuel Floyd and Sarah Beckwith of Nash County, NC. Dolphin Ward was the sixth child and third son. He was the first to get "Texas fever" leaving NC in 1825, marrying Esther Berry House, a widow, in 1833. They lived in Gonzales, and had a son, John W, and a daughter,Elizabeth, born two months after her father's death.

My g-g-grandfather, Adolphus Dolphin Floyd is named after Dolphin Ward.
