Thanks, Jim. I haven't done much research on
Dolphin Floyd since he is not my ancestor but I am very interested, mainly because of the Alamo angle and the fact that there is some kinship. My great great grandfather was Federick Floyd who lived in Nash County. He was an apparent cousin to Penuel Floyd. Don't know whether it was first cousin or second cousin. Did Dolphin go directly from North Carolina to Texas? At one point I theorized that Dolphin lived for a while in Jones County, Ga., and moved on to Texas, but we now have the report that a Dolphin Floyd was buried in Monroe County, which is in the neighborhood of Jones County. This remains a mystery. Also, I wanted to ask you about Penuel Floyd's name. The records in Nash County show it to be Penuel, Newell and a few other variations. But I have never seen Thomas Penuel Floyd in the Nash records. There was a Thomas Floyd living in Edgecombe County at one point. He was my ancestor and was too old to be Penuel. Not questioning the accuracy of the listing. I was just curious as to the source. I'm thinking that he could have been named in part for the Edgecombe Thomas, but that's just a guess.
