Lori--
These are questions I hope to find the answers to.No one can confirm that Rafe was from Antrim--just something I came across several times on the net.I figure it is a good starting point for my research here.I am planning to visit the Public Records Office in Belfast in the next couple of weeks.Unfortunately there is a terrible lack of information from this time period in Ireland, and the Scots-Irish were apparently as popular as the Catholics. There was a flood of emigration by the Scots-Irishin the mid-1700s from Ulster, due to religious persecution.Very few of the departing ships have surviving passenger lists, and Rafe is on none of them.
County Antrim is the north-easternmost county in Ulster (one of the 4 Irish provinces comprising Northern Ireland and Counties Monaghan, Donegal, and Cavan in the Republic), directly across the North Channel from the Mull of Kintyre, Scotland. It is believed that the first settlers in Ireland entered through Antrim, and certainly the majority of the Scots-Irish settled there.
Rgds,
Mollie
